My name is Cole Powers.
I am a passionate media creator and filmmaker with extensive experience in all aspects of production, from script development to post-production, ever since the age of 16. Skilled in directing as well as working with cameras and lighting equipment, I use my technical skills and my understanding of storytelling to enhance whatever production I work on. I have spent over three years working on student, short, and feature-length films either as an assistant cameraman or a gaffer/grip when not directing and editing my own films. I am capable of managing projects, collaborating with diverse teams, and meeting tight deadlines. I always ensure my own, unique voice is always present in my work while also working within any technical or budgetary restraints. I’m committed to delivering engaging, personal stories that connect with audiences of any background and try to be a beacon of collaboration in my work.
I first started working in film and media when I was 16 years old. I grew up loving movies, television, comic books, and video games, but I hadn't had a real avenue to channel those passions, that was until I took my high school broadcast class. In there, I created ads, short films, and sports promos for our football and baseball teams, spending so much time shooting and editing them together. From there, I gained the confidence to pursue and take filmmaking seriously. After high school, I studied Film and Media Production at Arizona State University, working on whatever I could to learn and grow as a filmmaker. I did everything from writing to editing before settling on wanting to be a director. I directed two shorts, the second of which, Two Tickets Please, we crowdfunded and shot as though it was an independent film, not a student short film. We had to raise all the money for it and work with the faculty to make sure they okay how far we were willing to push it. In my final semester at ASU, I applied for their semester in Los Angeles program, where I worked as an intern at Action Through Action, a non-profit video production company established to create narrative films that raise awareness to social issues like disability awareness.
After graduation, I committed to working as a filmmaker and other creative roles. I worked as a DP and gaffer on several films, I was a PA on a feature film starring Dee Williams from ET, worked as a first AC on another independent feature film I made with several of my ASU classmates, and other short film productions. I worked as a videographer for Big Fridge Productions and spent several months working as a Real Estate Photographer at BReal Media, where I didn't just take photos, but operated drones and high-end video equipment. I'm currently developing my next film which I am currently writing and looking for my next opportunity!
